The Embassy of Sweden in Beijing is looking for an experienced communication officer to join the team for Public Diplomacy, Press & Communication as soon as possible. Please send in your application before 4 March 2024.

The Embassy of Sweden in Beijing (The Embassy) is one of Sweden's largest foreign missions. We work within a variety of fields such as political and economic monitoring and reporting, science and innovation, forestry and agriculture, defence matters, business and cultural promotion, public diplomacy and communication as well as administrative and consular matters. Your workplace

You will be part of a small team working with public diplomacy, press and communication. The team promotes Sweden, Swedish values as well as Swedish solutions and innovations. The team is responsible for the Embassy's outward communication work, its presence in social media and its contacts with national and international media. Collaborations with other teams and external partners are frequent.

The position requires initiative skills, creativity, flexibility and an ability to work in team as well as individually. You will appear in public situations; social ability and good judgment are therefore crucial qualities. You report to the team leader and are expected to take on other tasks in the team or at the Embassy when needed.

Main Tasks

  • Initiate and manage projects, online and offline, within the framework of public diplomacy and Sweden promotion.
  • Arrange and coordinate meaningful activities for external visitors.
  • Initiate, collaborate and maintain a network of external partners and suppliers.

A successful applicant should have:

  • A minimum of 3 years proven work experience within project management.
  • University degree in PR and communication, project management or equivalent.
  • Strong organisational and analytical skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in Chinese and English.
  • Very good knowledge of Chinese society and Chinese culture.

Meritorious

  • International work or study experience, preferably within a European context.
  • Good knowledge of Swedish society and Swedish culture.
  • Language skills in Swedish.
  • Experience of translation and interpretation between English and Chinese.
  • Experience in working with social media, photography and video editing.

What we offer

This is a full-time local position at the Embassy of Sweden in Beijing. Work hours are 39,45 hours/week (full-time). Overtime and travel will occur.

A six-month probation period will apply. Individual salary applies and other terms and conditions will be discussed individually with successful candidates. All applicants must have a legal basis to live and work in China, either as Chinese citizen or with a correct visa/work permit in case of non-Chinese applicants.
