The Celebration of SEB 40 years in China

SEB opened a Representative Office in China in 1983. At that time it was located in a hotel room in a Beijing hotel open to foreigners, which housed many banks at the time. China at that period was reliant on funding from abroad and SEB has supported many projects in China with financing solutions. The projects that SEB supported at the time range from Telecom Infrastructure to industrial facilities to real estate projects. The focus of SEB in China has always been to support our home market clients in the development of their China business. The home markets have during the years been widened to include the Nordic Countries, the Baltic Countries and Germany (which is one of SEB’s most important home markets in China) and lately also companies headquartered in Austria, Switzerland, the Netherlands and the UK. The bank has also developed relations with the major Chinese Financial Institutions. The anniversary was an occasion to bring SEB Senior management to China as well as representatives of SEB’s major shareholder and founding family, the Wallenberg foundations, represented by Mr Jacob Wallenberg. There was a major celebration event in Beijing as well as a breakfast for the Nordic Chambers in addition to many visits to clients and financial institutions as well as a roundtable with senior business people and academics to discuss Sustainable Financing of Infrastructure and Scientific Co-operation across borders.

SEB is looking forward to continue to support and develop our clients’ business in the dynamic Chinese markets and of course to be an active member of the Swedish Chamber also in the future.
