Nordic Match’s early investment startup Nothing to launch Nothing Phone

Since its launch in late 2020, Nothing has led a fairly private existence, however, its second product ever, the Nothing Phone (1), is now confirmed to be coming this summer.

Nothing is a company established by former OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei. In 2020, Nordic Match announced its first seed investment into Nothing.

Tony Wang, Partner at Nordic Match said: “I have known Carl for years and impressed by his vision, dedication and grit when taking OnePlus from an idea to reality. We are excited to be part of his new journey and looking forward to see what Carl & Co will show to the World.”

Nothing has created buzz with its unique name and the previous Nothing Ear (1) transparent earbuds in the past 2 years. The earbuds have grabbed global attention attributed to aggressive design and see-through design, having shipped more than 400,000 units since launch in August of 2021.

The development is less surprising considering past record of Carl Pei. The Nothing Phone (1) will run on Nothing OS, an Android-based user experience. The Nothing OS is the most highly anticipated characteristics of Nothing Phone (1). Carl Pei shaped the most revered Android skins, OxygenOS, at OnePlus before he left the firm in 2020. He is introducing the same vision to Nothing, giving the start up a global tech enthusiast society another opportunity to use the “best of Android”. That said, it is expected that 2022 will be a critical year for Nothing. As described by Carl, Nothing Phone (1) aims at being a “breath of fresh air to the sleepy smartphone industry”, bringing better value to users with a one-of-a-kind design.

Meanwhile, Nothing has announced that it has raised US $70 million in a series B round co-led by EQT Ventures and C Ventures, with participation from GV (formerly Google Ventures).

Nordic Match is confident that Nothing Phone (1) will be another exciting milestone in the smartphone industry.
