Beijing, June 9 2018 Ι Last weekend the 1st Annual Nordic Dragon Boat Tournament took place in Houhai, Beijing, at the Jinfan Waterborn Sporting Center. The tournament was organized together with the DCCC, FBC and NBA and a total of 15 excited teams participated.
The Nordic Dragon Boat tournament is the biggest Nordic collaborative event of the year with ca 200 cheerers and participants and many opportunities for the participants to learn more about both Scandinavian and Chinese culture. Amongst other things the guests could enjoy a Scandinavian breakfast buffet with contributions from Fika Fika, Danish bakery Gertz, Arla and Radisson Blu and an energetic warm up session where Swedish Heyrobics kicked of the competition with some Swedish “gympa“.
The competition started with practice rounds where all the teams could pre-practice their rowing skills. All teams were later divided into four heats with four teams in each race. From each heat two teams advanced to the two semifinals, and the possibility to compete in the finally and the chance to win and receive the prestigious title “the best Nordic team of the year”.
Already from the start the competition was very intense, with a broken oar, cheerful cheerleaders a lot of team spirit from all the teams. Moving on from the heats into the semifinals did SDC1, SDC2, Lövepac, Embassy of Denmark, Radisson, STIGA, NBA and Embassy of Norway, and two SDC teams, Lövepac and NBA later fought in the finals. After the final it was clear that SDC1 was the winner of the 1st Annual Dragon Boat Tournament 2018. Awards for Best Team Spirit and the Most Gender Equal Team was also awarded to Novo Nordisk and the SwedCham team.
All the 15 teams that participated were; Embassy of Sweden, Embassy of Norway, Embassy of Denmark, Team Finland, STIGA, Lövepac, White Peak, Swedcham, Arla, Novo Nordisk, two teams from the Sino-Danish Centre (SDC), Tikkurila, Norweigan Business Association (NBA), and Radisson Blu.
